The Life Cycle of Sea Otters
Have you ever wondered how sea otters grow up? Let’s explore the life cycle of these amazing creatures!
Sea otters start their lives as tiny pups, born in the safety of their mother’s care. Olly’s mother kept him warm and safe, grooming his fur and teaching him how to swim and hunt. Sea otter pups are born with a thick coat of fur that helps them float in the water.
As they grow, young sea otters learn to dive and catch their own food. Olly practiced his hunting skills by watching his mother and playing with his friends. By the time they reach adulthood, sea otters are skilled hunters and swimmers, ready to live independently.
Fun Fact: Sea otter pups can’t dive underwater until they are a few months old because their fur is too buoyant.
In our final post, we’ll talk about how we can help protect sea otters and their ocean home.
